Talking Hands is a digital photographic series exploring how hands can communicate without words. Photographed during a stroll through Aarhus in June 2026, the series shifts attention away from faces and towards the gestures, movements, and small interactions that unfold in everyday public life.

Reaching out, holding a phone, resting, or unconsciously mirroring another person’s movements, hands express emotions, habits, and intentions in ways that often go unnoticed. They become a language of their own, revealing fragments of individual lives and moments of connection without the need for spoken words.

Observed on the street, these gestures exist somewhere between intention and spontaneity. Removed from their wider context, they become open-ended signs, inviting the viewer to imagine the thoughts, relationships, and stories behind them.

Through this focus on hands, Talking Hands explores the body as a form of nonverbal communication, finding expression and connection in the ordinary rhythms of urban life.

The series was photographed using the Leica D-LUX 8 “100 YEARS OF LEICA” edition.
