Sulyap means “glimpse” in Filipino. Candid black-and-white photographs of Japan, following people through trains, streets, and small eating places—the movement, waiting, and quiet pauses between destinations.
Sulyap means “glimpse” in Filipino.
Travelling through Japan, I found myself watching what happened between destinations: a passenger folded over a suitcase, strangers sheltering from rain, a vendor tending his grill, and a diner raising a bowl.
These photographs follow the movement and pauses of everyday life across trains, platforms, streets, and small eating places. People share the same spaces while attending to their own thoughts, routines, and journeys. Occasionally, a glance meets the camera.
Photographed candidly in black and white, this series is my personal glimpse of Japan, gathered one frame at a time.
