slow education

“slow education” is an ongoing exploration of the elusive process of individual growth and facing one’s fears. In some ways similar to a yearbook, in others a survey; it is a reflection of the landscapes (“classrooms”) and people (“teachers”) that have stumbled in and out of my life over the years. It is an allegory for the surreal manifestation of my narcolepsy, a confused relationship with masculinity, intergenerational trauma, redemption, and the catharsis of reflecting on the very things which historically have inhibited my own self actualization.

These images I have selected are part of a larger body of work that also consists of audio, video, and mixed media. Sometimes it can feel like we are drifting through the wrong universe. Over time however if we are lucky, with the help of some magic; we become part of our own solar system. Made of people who are like planets, stars, or moons, all whose gravitational pull aligns with ours as we begin to slide into orbit with one another in an effort to create a more harmonious existence.
