An intimate and honest documentary narrative about Pyotr, an 82-year-old pensioner living his twilight years in the quiet countryside of Belarus, exploring the psychological reality of human aging and loneliness.

This documentary series is an honest narrative about Pyotr, an 82-year-old pensioner living his twilight years in the quiet countryside of Belarus. Born in 1944, he spent 43 years working as a mechanic at a factory. He raised children and grandchildren, buried his wife, and survived several eye surgeries and a stroke. Now, his weekends are filled with waiting for his daughter and grandchildren to visit. In quiet moments, he tenderly remembers his childhood, the stories of his parents, and how his grandfather perished during World War II.

I find myself deeply drawn to the quiet truth of unnoticed elderly people, to their simplicity, and to their inherent wisdom. While photographing isolated seniors, I notice their deep desire to share their stories, to be heard, and simply to be noticed.

Beyond the visual textures of weathered wood, his calloused hands, and the unwavering devotion of a loyal dog, this project explores the psychological reality of human aging and loneliness. Photographing with a vintage Soviet manual lens (Helios 44), I deliberately step away from polished modern aesthetics. This historic optics helps me capture the tactile atmosphere of a passing generation—culminating in the final image of a weathered hand holding a piece of bare bread, a timeless symbol of life, labor, and resilience.
