"To swim as the verb of nothingness, or nothing! As an imperative for the necessity of jouissance... PHOTO-PERFORMANCE is light playing as water! A seismograph, it registers tremors, dissonances, and reveals an invisible calligraphy."

PHOTO-PERFORMANCE (Mar, céu do chão)

Many phenomena occur when bodies and elements meet in an aquatic environment... turbulence, fractals, visual and sonic noise... light, water, air, and bodies produce something transparent... which the performance captures by chance in the interplay between the movements of swimming and the moment of stillness.

My work is an intensely affective and empirical process. It was born from chance, from the visceral need to take risks, to face frustration, and to allow myself to discover the work while searching for it. In Portuguese, the verb "nadar" (to swim) carries within it the abyss of "nada" (nothingness). PHOTO-PERFORMANCE (Mar, céu do chão) emerges from this intimate perception.

To produce them, I shoot a film while swimming and later, during editing, I extract the frames. The pictorial stain is the expression of the frictions and their resonances; the images navigate the space between painting and photography. The camera functions as the needle of a seismograph. And my body, in the movement of the swim, performs the tremor itself.

"Nadar" (to swim) and the abyss of "nada" (nothingness): a relationship unique to the Portuguese language. This performance announces this encounter. The collision between body, light, water, and air creates invisible fractals and turbulence. The camera acts as a seismograph, recording the jouissance and visual noise."
