Only For Now

Only For Now chronicles my earliest artistic exploration into memory, expression, and exploration into the world and how I see it.

Only For Now chronicles my earliest artistic exploration into memory, expression, and exploration into the world and how I see it.

The images themselves would serve as a therapeutic escape from reality, disassociating from myself, immersion into the world and finding refuge in photographing with an indiscriminate eye.

This practice started as a way of healing from going through ongoing bouts of psychosis during manic episodes. Not trusting the world led me to obsessively photograph it. The images did not become real until printing them in the darkroom.

With the same approach in the production and processing, there's an element of performance in expounding my inner thoughts, insecurities, irrationalities and making sense of memory and false perceptions of reality with broken compositions built back together. By writing down these ideas in a journalistic way, the final product results in an elaborate dance between image and text, with a convoluted yet poetic balance between image and text.

Once I started handling these prints, and working with the physicality of the images, I began to experiment collaging photos together, sewing them and journaling my thoughts onto them. This resulted in a distinctive style and a sort of poetic nature to the work.

Deeply rooted in the tacitly of materials, the recontextualizing of the index of the image, the recording of light on film is married to the recording of my thoughts.
