Inner Light

The source of this body of work is not the observation and capture of the external world, but an inward listening and luminous awareness.

The source of this body of work is not the observation and capture of the external world, but an inward listening and luminous awareness—a practice rooted in the Buddhist understanding of citta-mātra, "the mind as the generative source of all things." When the camera turns inward, images arise not from without, but from this inner ground.

This series was created between 2024 and 2026, inspired by my daily practice of mindful recitation of Amitabha Buddha's name. When the mind settles and becomes focused on the name, an inner light naturally appears. I borrow colors from everyday objects and blur them completely until the objects disappear, leaving only light. This act of dissolving the visible into pure radiance is, in essence, an embodiment of śūnyatā—the emptiness that is not absence, but the fertile openness from which form arises and passes. The images move from clarity and purity toward stillness and steadfastness; they are the visual echo of my inner state, and a moment of deep connection with Amitabha Buddha.

When the camera ceases to function as a tool for recording reality, it enters a state of unimpeded ease—neither grasping at sharpness nor resisting so-called "failures" like blur, The image is no longer a record. It becomes the sublime light and colour of the mind, revealed through the myriad things.
