I spy with your little eye

What is an actual memory? To what extent do memories shape a family? Which memories do we pass on?

All the impressions of life that we have absorbed so far form our memory. Some moments from the past are captured by long-term memory and will never be erased. Others disappear immediately or they stay in the dark for a long time, until suddenly an object or a smell brings them back to light.

To what extent do memories shape a family? Which memories do we pass on? Which memories are my own and which are based on what my parents told me? Can memories change over time and can we preserve them? What is an actual memory?

In the project "I spy with your little eye", I re-staged my family's memories in new pictures. In combination with negative prints on self-coated paper, I combined significant motifs from my family's archive. The images in the project are not only a reflection on my personal past, but also on how we shape memories and how they can influence us.
