This artwork, titled Entangled, brings together self-portraiture and sculpture to examine the shifting relationship between the human form and material objects, reflecting on cultural and technological engagement.
I am a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, sculpture, moving image, and painting. My art practice centres on the question: What does a fragmented reality consist of?
Developed as part of my Master of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), my photographic work, Entangled, combines self-portraiture and sculpture to explore the relationship between identity, the body, and contemporary culture. My practice incorporates hand-built sculpture, studio photography, digital manipulation, and collage techniques. I use my own body as a means of expressing and investigating the themes within my work.
Drawing on Surrealism, feminist theory, and posthumanism, I investigate how cultural narratives and technology shape our experiences and inform our identities. My work also references the historical traditions of still life, where objects have long served as symbols of desire, status, mortality, and cultural values.
By positioning myself alongside my sculptural creation, I explore the boundaries between the real and the fabricated, the body and the object. Through this relationship, I consider how cultural histories, consumerism, and contemporary visual culture influence our perception of ourselves and the world around us.
Entangled forms part of a broader photographic series exploring the relationship between sculpture, the body, and the subject, engaging in dialogue with women artists and photographers who have investigated similar themes.
