This series documents the humanity found in people fighting for change. It focuses on true emotion, the heart and soul of protestors, and the beautiful moments that arise from their passion.

"I have a voice//

Started out as a whisper, turned into a scream//

Made a beautiful noise//

Shoulder to shoulder, marching in the street"

Brandi Carlile & Alicia Keys

Rooted in the art of protest, "A Beautiful Noise" documents the humanity found in groups of people coming together to fight for social justice. It focuses on the true emotion, the heart and soul of protestors, and the beautiful moments that arise from their passion. Whether the moments are calm ones, like a whisper, or bold ones, like a scream, there is a beauty about them that is waiting to be captured by my lens.

Within this series you won't see photos from just one protest, but from a variety of protests representing numerous issues that have been plaguing America for years. Social issues that affect minorities and marginalized communities. Issues that are based in judgement, hate, prejudice, and inequality. You will see activists of all ages, races, religions, genders, and sexual orientation, fighting for equality and freedom for all who call America home.

Just like how taking to the streets to protest is a form of activism, so is the photographic documentation of these moments and time in our history. I'm proud to embrace this as my form of activism, and to be a creative activist. To use my artistic skills to create photographs that spread the message about the inequities in our world. Inequities that I am so passionate about fighting. Through my photographs I hope to raise awareness, start conversations, and begin to change minds regarding the issues represented here, and among others.

This series continues to evolve and grow, with the ultimate goal being a gallery show that features not only photographs, but a multimedia component as well. I have both sound and video elements that I'd like to incorporate, including a short film on activism, video interviews with numerous activists from the St. Louis region, and a soundtrack that accompanies the photos. I really want to embrace this creative activism that I have become so passionate about, and through my photographs and art, tell these necessary stories, and start conversations that will ultimately help heal and better our country.
