Intergalactica Residency, Deloitte's Photo Grant, Photobook Award EI, Prix Photoforum 2024, Textile Transformations and PhMuseum Education Program are among the opportunities we selected this month.

Intergalactica Residency Open Call

Deadline 14 June / No entry fee

With XYZ Books, Yogurt, Fiebre Photobook, PAVAC and Iconictheory as part of its team, Intergalactica is a transnational project looking for artists who are concluding a photographic work around the concept of sustainability.

The Intergalactica Residency will take place on January 2025 at XYZ Books in Lisbon, Portugal, and will continue online, culminating in the production of a photobook published by XYZ Books in 500 copies, and of a custom-made digital platform developed in partnership with Fiebre and Bestalde Studio. The artist selected to take part in the residency will be granted a fee of €1,500, accommodation, and a maximum contribution of €250 for the flights. Plus, the author will be required to conduct a small workshop with the local community during the residency period.

Deloitte's Photo Grant 2024

Under the artistic direction of Denis Curti and promoted by Black Camera, the 2nd edition of Deloitte's Photo Grant is centered around the theme Possibilities, inviting us to reflect on the power of our individual and societal choices.

Alongside the Nominations Section, which will award a cash prize of €40,000 and a solo exhibition at MUDEC, Museo delle Culture in Milan to one artist, the Open Call welcomes photographers aged under 35 to submit unpublished works, not yet awarded or made public during other events. A selected photographer will receive a €20,000 grant aimed at the development of their project idea. The resulting work will become an exhibition at MUDEC, when the next edition of the award is held in 2025.

Encontros da Imagem - Photobook Award 2024

Deadline 30 June / Entry fee €20

The Portuguese festival is welcoming artists to submit self-made, self-edited, and independent photobooks for the Photobook Award EI 2024. Special attention will be paid to experimentalism and innovation in forms of publication.

A collective exhibition held between 20 September and 3 November 2024 in Braga, as part of the 34th edition of the Encontros da Imagem, will include all the submitted books. Plus, a jury composed of Jens Friis, Susana Lourenço Marques, and Susana Paiva will award one project with a €1,000 cash prize.

Prix Photoforum 2024

Deadline 30 June / Entry fee €35-65

Photoforum Pasquart is welcoming photographers and artists to submit their most innovative projects, whether it’s documentary photography, conceptual works, or multimedia installations.

The jury composed of Alfio Tommasini, Teresa Gruber, Morgane Paillard, Nicolas Savary, and Amelie Schüle, will select 10 to 15 artists who will present their works in a group exhibition in December 2024 in the heart of Biel/Bienne. Each will receive a contribution of CHF 500 covering transport and production costs, and will attend the Portfolio Day to discuss their work and connect with experts and other artists. In addition, one artist will be awarded the Prix Photoforum consisting of a CHF 5,000 cash prize.

The deadline for applying to the call is on 30th June, with a €35-65 entry fee. More information on Photo Forum's website.

Textile Transformations 2024

Textile Exchange and Magnum Photos are launching the third edition of Textile Transformations, inviting emerging photographers to submit a series of images centered around the visual stories that take place when fibers and materials are cultivated, created, spun, woven, sewn, loved and cherished.

One selected photographer will receive a commission to the value of £8,000 (€9,400) for Textile Exchange to document the stories behind some of its members between Autumn 2024 and Summer 2025, as well as a mentorship with leading talent from Magnum’s network of photographers and support from the Magnum Photos Education team. Plus, one runner-up will receive a commission to the value of £5,000 (€5,875) for Textile Exchange and some mentorship sessions from Magnum’s network of photographers and the Magnum Photos Education team.

PhMuseum Education Program 2024/25

Deadline 20 June / No entry fee

PhMuseum's four Masterclasses are tailored to meet the needs of contemporary photographers, artists, curators, and storytellers looking to cater to specific areas of the visual language. Participants will develop their projects working with Laura El-Tantawy and Elisa Medde (CRITICAE), Erik Kessels (CURAE), Lewis Chaplin – Loose Joints (FOLIO), and Salvatore Vitale (MEDIAE).

While CRITICAE explores the relationship between personal and critical methods within documentary photography, CURAE delves into the process and strategies of curating photography exhibitions. Through FOLIO, participants will conclude a body of work and have it ready for publishing in the form of a book dummy, while MEDIAE will guide participants to develop a transmedia project spanning diverse techniques and language.

Applicants are asked to share their portfolio and a motivational paragraph. The deadline for applying to the call is on 20th June, with no entry fee. More information on PhMuseum's website.

Other Deadlines

Hariban Award - International Collotype Competition 2024 / Deadline 15 June / Entry fee €46

Presented by Benrido and launched in 2014, the Hariban Award combines the 170-year-old analog technique of the collotype with contemporary photography. One artist will be awarded a two-week residency in October 2024 in Kyoto, Japan, where they will collaborate with the Master Printer of the Benrido Collotype Atelier. Working closely with printers, they will produce eight collotype prints to be exhibited in a solo exhibition held in the spring of the following. Flights, accommodation, and production expenses will be provided by Benrido.

Preus Museum - Ruptures Open Call / Deadline 30 June / No entry fee

Preus Museum is looking for stories under this year's theme Ruptures, shedding light on ruptures with the past and the values we may have taken for granted. One photographer will be awarded a NOK15,000 (€1,280) cash prize, will be offered a place in the collection of Preus Museum, and will have a solo exhibition at the Oslo Negativ Photo Festival 2025.

Rencontres de la Photographie Marrakech + Off des Rencontres d'Arles 2024 Open Call / Deadline 25 June / Entry fee €15

The 4th edition of Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Marrakech will take place from October 23 to 27, 2024. During these encounters, 20 selected artists will receive a screening exhibition of their project, plus a group printed exhibition at the OFF in Arles, titled The Language of Pictures, which will be held at CIQ de la Roquette in Place Paul Doumer, from July 1 to 7, 2024. In addition, 30 finalists will have two photos from their project, selected by one of our jurors, screened during the 4th edition of Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Marrakech.

Critical Mass 2024 / Deadline 1 July / Entry fee € 60-68

Organised by Photolucida, Critical Mass is an annual online program that makes connections within the photography community. It gets photographers’ work in front of top museum curators, gallerists, publishers, editors, educators, artists, and media producers. 50 selected authors are named and a series of awards are given. Jurors include experts like Arianna Rinaldo (Independent Curator, Photo Editor and Photo Consultant), Camilla Marrese (Visual Director, PhMuseum), Federico Estol (Artistic Director, San José Foto Festival), Gail Fletcher (Photo Editor, The Guardian) and George Nobechi (Creative Director, Karuizawa Foto Fest).
