Kaunas Photography Gallery is pleased to announce an open call for its 2024 residency program.

Overview

Kaunas Photography Gallery residency was established in 2012. It provides a great opportunity for persons working in the field of photography to develop ideas and projects within a fully supportive working environment. In addition, residents often bring a unique outsider’s perspective to the subject of Kaunas and its environment. Successful applicants will be given access to Lithuanian photography archives, a library of photographic publications and direct contact with Lithuanian photographers and the most relevant arts institutions. As we accept very few residents at a time, this enables a unique experience where introductions and assistance are specifically adapted to the residents’ own interests and practices.

Practical Info

Photographers and artists, curators, critics and art historians who work with photography are invited to apply. A number of residencies are available. These usually last from 1 to 4 weeks and are held within the period 1 April–10 December.

Kaunas Photography Gallery is looking for candidates with an original approach, one which displays an attentiveness and sensitivity to Kaunas’s identity and culture, and its environmental characteristics. They hope to receive some compelling and ambitious proposals. Applicants will be evaluated through criteria including the artistic or professional excellence of their work, the quality of their proposal, and the extent to which the residency will contribute to their progress and be consistent with their creative goals and professional development.

Kaunas Photography Gallery covers travel expenses (up to 300 €) and provides free accommodation in a separate apartment or guest house in Kaunas city center or other location upon request and a small amount of money is given for basic expenses. Artists are expected to give at least one informal public audio-visual presentation about their work during the residency.

Applicants should fill in the residency application form and send it by email to the address listed on the form, together with portfolio, visual supporting material and, if possible, reference. Please send all the material in one PDF file.
