"What Remains" began as a redscale film experiment, blending landscapes and the human body within. It treats the body as an inseparable part of the earth, confronting how we are both bound to our environment and responsible for changing it.

What remains is a project built from multi-layered images created on redscale film as a visual metaphor for the heating of our planet, and of ourselves. It began as a personal experiment gradually developing into an environmental study, combining satellite imagery of recent forest fires in Serbia, scanned samples of scorched terrain (gathered directly from burnt land, soil, and branches), and Polaroid transfer technique.

The project questions both our human impact on the earth and our inherent fragility within it. I chose to incorporate the female body as a symbol of fertility, tracing its gradual dissolution into the landscape. Images were upscaled to the point of degradation and decomposition, producing a raw, grainy texture that bridges the digital noise of satellite views with the physical grit of burnt soil. In the end, our bodies simply return to the soil, slowly becoming part of the earth again in a cycle of death and rebirth.

Narrative is structured like a horizon that shifts across horizontal landscapes, but it concludes in a different medium and format. A space reflecting what can be born from the ashes of burned forests, where a human form, equally fragile, holds a sign of hope. What remains is entirely up to us.

This is an ongoing project that will soon take the form of an author photo-book.
