"This is the story of my family."

"My parents fell in love at a dance in Quelimane, Mozambique. My father was a Portuguese soldier stationed there during the Portuguese occupation, while my mother was a local Mozambican."

"He was destined to return to Portugal, but fate had other plans."

"With Mozambique's independence in 1975, the Frelimo party ordered all Portuguese to leave the country within 24 hours. My father, overcome with love, chose to stay."

"My photographs seek to dissect and navigate the effects of colonialism and migration, based on my family's personal history. I address three aspects: family, migration and the history of Africans, using family archives and my own images. I investigate how Africans became a result of mixing, migration and colonization, intertwined histories and repeated patterns. In this way, I unravel my own African identity."

"The collage technique I use exacerbates and emphasizes this history. I superimpose family photos onto scenes from Mozambique, both past and present, creating a juxtaposition that reveals the complex web of influences that have shaped my identity. Collage thus becomes a way of constructing my past and my perception of my own identity."
