I am looking for the moment where the quiet immensity of nature and humanity exist together in peace; the shoreline.

In my work, I’m drawn to the beaches of the Pacific Northwest. There is a calm in the ocean: a tranquility of spaciousness. The far horizon, the waves, and the graceful ripples of sand by the water’s edge all inspire me. In each frame, I am searching for the place where person and nature meet. I am looking for the moment where the quiet immensity and humanity exist together in peace: the shoreline.

Medium format film photography allows me to capture the landscape in great detail. Film also feels precious, as each shot is a physical reminder of these moments in time. Waiting for an image to appear after developing feels like a reminder to pause, reflect on the moment, and truly take in the beauty of the water.

In these images, no single part exists in isolation. For me, every element contributes to the overall balance and meaning of the photograph, capturing a moment in the life of a larger organism. This way of seeing reflects a simple but essential truth: we are not separate from the world around us but part of a shared and interconnected whole.

I wish to create a body of photographic work that provides a respite to the viewer. My hope is that with each image, one may feel a quiet connection with nature, the importance of wide open space, and the beauty of the moment.
