This is a selection of pictures from Berber culture, specifically Mostafa’s family and home. He welcomed us to experience his culture and showed us Asni and his neighborhood, still affected by last year’s earthquake.
It all started this winter traveling through the Atlas with my cousin. Our car broke down in the middle of the night, and one man, Mostafa, helped us fix the car. He then welcomed us into his home, where we were able to experience his warmth and hospitality firsthand.
This selection of pictures, all taken on 35mm film, captures a glimpse of Berber culture, specifically from Mostafa’s family and home. He opened his house and shared his family with us, allowing us to learn about his traditions and way of life. We were even able to witness the unique rituals, like the preparation of food and the traditional items used, such as the “ibrik” to wash our hands before eating. Mostafa’s family was kind enough to show us their daily life, from the curtains in their living room to the simple yet meaningful items that fill their home.
Mostafa also took us to Asni and his neighborhood, which is still recovering from the devastation caused by last year’s earthquake. The signs of destruction are still visible, but the resilience of the people in the area was inspiring. It was a humbling experience, and we left with a deep appreciation for the culture and the generosity of the people we met.
