A collection of Noodscapes (nude-landscape photography) captured across Australia through the female lens of Lauren Crooke.
Permission is the second collection in a body of work originally inspired through my incongruence of studying Western Art (the Renaissance) and the start of the #metoo movement.
Learning about a cultural pillar of men imagining, painting, and ultimately portraying women how they perceived them - lifeless, often missing bones, naked, succumbing - and more and more women were saying "me too". I recognised the importance of art creating change and wondered how women would be portrayed through the female lens.
Since then, I have been creating art that empowers viewers and participants alike, showing women and non-binary bodies how they deserve to be seen, heard and represented.
Each image in this collection is created from a community-based event where participants volunteer to be a part of the shoot, and the Nood community continues to grow. I create the in the hopes they hang on walls where people gather and children run. They are intended to incite conversation, raise awareness about gendered sexual violence, oppression, and inequality, and promote body diversity representation and changing perspectives from the patriarchal male gaze.
The collection empowers participants and viewers alike; galvanising community, inciting conversations, increasing awareness
