The project about how the traumatic experience related to bodily autonomy can be shaped into an art form
''Echo from the Past - Speak'' is a photographic project exploring memory, identity , and the body as a vessel where past experiences persist and shape the present. The work investigates internal psychological states, visualising suppressed voices, emotional residue, and fragmented identity. The body is presented as both present and erased, questioning visibility, control, and the instability of self.
Visually, the project combines constructed imagery with performative self- portraiture. Strong directional light isolates the figure within minimal interiors, creating a sense of tension and detachment. The absence or manipulation of traditional identity markers contributed to a depersonalised and ambiguous presence.
The project is developed through studio- based photographic sessions involving lighting experimentation, staging, and self- performance. It also incorporates handcrafted elements and installation to extend the work beyond the photohraphic image and into a spatial experience.
This work represents a shift in my practice towards a more controlled, conceptual, and research- driven approach. It allows me to deepen my use of self- portraiture as a performative and critical tool, while refining my visual language and technical precision.
The Agility Award will support the production and development of the project, including printing, mounting, and installation materials. It will also provide dedicated time for experimentation abd refinement, enabling me to realise a cohesive body of work.
My goal is to produce an exhibition- ready series, engage with contemporary discourse around identity and the body, and establish a distinct artistic voice that bridges photography and conceptual storytelling. The project emerges from my ongoing exploration of psychological states and personal experience, offering an introspective reflection on what remains beneath the surface- what is carried, unspoken, and continuously shaping who we are.
