Displacements explores urban fullness and emptiness through prism-based photographs that fragment and transform non-places across Italy, revealing the unstable boundaries between presence and absence, construction and void in a globalized landscape.
Displacements is a metaphysical photographic series exploring the relationship between urban fullness and emptiness as manifestations of contemporary processes of consumption and globalization.
The series marks the beginning of my artistic research and introduces the prism as a device for altering the perception of urban space.
Through multiple exposures, the prism fragments, overlaps and transforms the surrounding environment, producing unstable images shaped by uncertainty, transformation and visual displacement. Rather than simply recording the city, the prism intervenes in how it is perceived, revealing the tensions between presence and absence, fullness and void, construction and subtraction. The resulting images bring together rhythms, forms and contrasts from different urban environments, creating spaces that resist a fixed sense of place.
Mostly photographed in non-places across Italy, the environments remain deliberately untraceable to a single location, reflecting a contemporary landscape in which places, identities and architectures increasingly merge and dissolve into one another.
