Come with me - the Emma

A nomadic lifestyle aboard sailboat Emma. This poetic photography project captures children harmonising with nature, creating a world both intimate and boundless.

Julie, Sep, and Tijn have been traveling the world for nearly three years. They are growing up while sailing through Europe, Africa, across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean, South America, and beyond. Their home is the 13-meter sailboat Emma. From this small yet secure space, the world lies at their feet.

This photography project captures their unfolding story, observing how the children harmonise with the elements, creating a world that feels both intimate and boundless. Through the lens of my camera, I document their connection to the ever-changing environment and the energy they draw from it.

Life aboard the sailboat brings them into a natural rhythm, where slowing down becomes second nature. The deliberate pace fosters reflection and awareness, encouraging the children to discover not only the vastness of the world around them but also their place within it. This project is an exploration of childhood shaped by the sea—a life of adventure, introspection, and connection.
