Cold Intimacy explores the distance between what we see of people and what they carry within. Through ordinary gestures, fleeting encounters, and traces of absence, the photographs reveal the unseen weight of everyday life.

I have always been drawn to the distance between what we see of people and what they might be carrying within themselves.

Perspective

A person staring out at the sea, a body leaning forward in an underground station, a pair of worn hands resting together. These are ordinary moments, yet I find something unsettling in their stillness. A gesture can suggest exhaustion, resistance, longing, or an entire history we will never know. Sometimes, even an empty chair or a shirt left hanging can hold the weight of someone's presence.

Cold Intimacy

Cold Intimacy is my way of observing these invisible worlds. I am interested in the quiet tension between the external world people move through and the private realities they carry with them. The smallest gestures can become acts of defiance, while familiar objects and spaces can suggest absence, attachment, or a life suspended between moments.

Chapters

Moving between colour and black and white, public and private spaces, I photograph what draws my attention without trying to turn my interpretations into someone else's truth. What I sense in an image may not be what another person sees, and that uncertainty is part of the work.

Reflection

For me, intimacy does not always come from closeness. Sometimes it comes from recognising the weight of a life we cannot enter, and allowing that distance to remain.

Inner Distance — Four people facing the same horizon, each seemingly somewhere else. I wonder what occupies their minds beyond this view. The sea stretches endlessly before them, yet the distance I am drawn to is the one we cannot see.

Counterflow—A man carries the weight of his work with an almost effortless confidence, while a car moves in the opposite direction. I kept both in the frame for a reason: labour and industry sharing the same road, moving against each other.

Defiance — He has stepped out of his shoes, only to rest his feet on them. A small, almost invisible act of defiance in a public space. What interests me is the freedom of that gesture, the quiet decision to be comfortable on his own terms.

Weathered— He offered me a glass of tea while I photographed him. His hands held my attention more than anything else: years of work, repetition, and experience written into their texture. Sometimes a lifetime seems to become visible in the smallest details.

Lingering — The four small pieces left on the table make the absence feel almost physical. What remains is not simply an empty space, but the weight of someone who once occupied it.

Ritual — My grandmother in her kitchen, absorbed in a familiar routine. Cooking and cleaning were more than daily tasks; they were ways of holding on to life. I photographed her from behind, leaving her within the world she had made her own.

Identity — My grandmother sits with her hands folded, looking into the distance, while her reflection seems to face another direction. I see the weight of a life in those hands, but also the certainty of someone who knows what she has lived through. One person, more than one visible world.

Illusion— The movement of the fabric creates the illusion of an extra leg, turning an ordinary journey into something almost dreamlike. For a moment, the body seems to escape its own familiar form. I was drawn to that brief uncertainty between what is there and what we think we see.

Inward — A small, bent figure surrounded by concrete, artificial light, and rigid geometry. Yet none of it seems to overpower him. I see someone turned inward, holding on to himself in the middle of an impersonal space. The human body remains the most real thing in the frame.

Suspended — Two garments hanging side by side, caught between light and shadow. I see something unresolved in their stillness: lives on hold, choices left unmade, perhaps even a farewell. Nothing moves, yet the image carries the feeling of something unfinished.
