Visual record of my journey through the boundless spaces of the island of Lanzarote, a photographic meditation on places forgotten by time, existing beyond the boundaries of our known reality.

As Pascal Quinard writes in his book "Abysses" – "We call the deepest places in the ocean abysses as soon as the light of the sun no longer reaches them." This passage from this poetic and philosophical novel serves as a starting point for my work on the "Abysses" project. It is a visual record of my journey through the boundless spaces of the island of Lanzarote, with the intention of creating a universal photographic story about places lost in time, existing outside the realm of our known world—places that, despite the passage of time, belong to antiquity, places that can be called the Erstwhile.

I believe that every place has its own voice and invites us to tell its story. Drawing on personal and cultural narratives related to associations with the island, its history, traditions, and mythology, I aim to share the story of my experience discovering the mystery of a place that seems to belong to another time, another reality.

Boundless spaces of Lanzarote invite us to travel back in time. Despite the omnipresent sun, many places still remain in shadow, concealing ancient stories of the origins of existence. The history of this land does not fully reveal itself; it emerges from caves and volcanoes, floating between rocks and on the waves of the dark sea. During my journey into the heart of the island, I encounter people who seem to be an integral part of this harsh landscape. Who exactly are its inhabitants? Just like the island itself, they conceal secrets; they blend with island.

"Abysses" is a story of a place lost in time, as real as it is dreamlike, tempting with the possibility of discovery, yet simultaneously evoking fear of the unknown.
