The FOTOHOF calling format developed in 2021 is intended to offer artists a platform to present themselves and their work to a qualified audience consisting of experts and visitors.
Overview
As an association founded by artists and photographers, FOTOHOF wants to enter into a dialogue with producers of contemporary artistic photography and create a place to promote the exchange between artists and experts from the scene. Projects that are not older than 3 years and have not yet been shown in institutional exhibitions are invited to submit.
FOTOHOF>CALLING will take place on Saturday, 5 October 2024 in Salzburg. Ten artists will be invited to present their work on site and discuss it with the other participants, the FOTOHOF team and selected guests from the Austrian art and culture scene. At the end of the discussion rounds, participants will be invited to exchange ideas and network with the artists who have travelled to the event. For this purpose, the presented projects will be prepared for viewing on tables in our workshop rooms and a pre-selection of approx. 25 submitted positions will be shown publicly by means of a projection at Inge-Morath-Platz.
Practical Info
Every artist working on a current project is invited to participate. A coherent project can be submitted, which will be presented and discussed during the event. The project can be in the process of being developed or already finalised. The works should not be older than 3 years and should not have been shown in institutional exhibitions before. From the submitted works, a jury will make a pre-selection of 23 artists whose works will be presented online at calling.fotohof.at. Out of this pre-selection, 10 positions will be invited to Salzburg for the event on 5 October 2024.
Applicants must complete the online form. In addition to personal information, a project description (max. 1,500 characters), a biography (max. 900 characters) and up to 12 images (max. 2 MB per file, JPEG, long edge 1,500px, 75dpi) must be submitted.
The pre-selection of approx. 25 submitted works will be published on calling.fotohof.at and in printed form as a magazine. This will be offered free of charge in the FOTOHOF>EDITION programme at festivals and trade fairs and will give additional visibility to the FOTOHOF>CALLING format and the selected works. For invited artists FOTOHOF will cover the costs of travel and accommodation. Up to €200 can be reimbursed upon presentation of original receipts.

Since its foundation in 1981, FOTOHOF has been the centre for artistic photography in Salzburg, with diverse activities at home and abroad. In addition to the exhibitions in the gallery in Lehen, FOTOHOF’s program includes one of the most extensive photo-specific libraries in Austria, an internationally active photo book publishing house, an archive for historical and contemporary photography, international touring exhibitions, a wide range of educational offers with workshops and discourse events.
